Self-Reflection

 My Self-Reflection:

Through my volunteering experience I have learned many things such as organizing my time, advancing my career, organizing student information data using excel, helping students, organizing files, connecting with people, working under pressure.

I had pass through a life changing with this experience while volunteering I have to smile and be helpful this two things is important while volunteering and I should  make the daily work before leaving.
When I start volunteering I feel that it is a boring work after two days of volunteering I had changed my mind and see it exciting, especially that it is important for every student before getting the certify they should have an work experience . I see myself changed after volunteering to an other person whom seen his time is important and should spend the time in things that will make it will spend and productive.

While volunteering there are some problems that I had faced like making search on student information and I see it hard to make after my instructor helped me and told me that you will have to do it in your future career and it is important, the other problem that I had face is I should use a large printer to print student information and I find it hard to use it after I learned how to use it I thought I will use it in the future.

I think this two problems that I had faced will let me become a good employment in my future career and learned that nothing is hard and everything In life improves my experience especially that if its hard and I try to make it.

While I am student I will still registering in a volunteering program because I think that will become new experience to me that will help me in my future career, and I will still spend my time in a good things that will give a new experience.

Volunteering in HCT

Volunteering in HCT

Day 1:
From 10PM to 12PM

These couple of days I have lived through a life changing experience, it’s been my pleasure to volunteer in the place I chose to continue my education the Higher College of Technology.  When I first arrived I got introduced to Ashwini the supervisor. From that time, I thought to myself that I would give all my attention to help her in what she was trying to do. My first task was to keep record of how many students are graduating this year. To make sure that the amount of gowns or the graduating uniform is the same as the number of students. I had to start taking notes in where the amount of gowns weren’t equivalent to the number of students. I made sure not to leave the students service without presenting my report. I was proud to say that it was a good first day.

Day 2:
From 10AM to 12PM

I came back the next day, fresh and ready. I walked to Ashwini said good morning and asked her what I had to do this morning. She told me to have a seat and she presented to me the task of the day. It was quite simple I had to organize the students. The students who attend classes in the morning were on one side and the students who attended classes in the afternoon or in the evening on the other. After that I kept record of the students who their absences has been approved and the ones who haven’t. All this information has been recorded on the web. After those two tasks my job for the day was done and left the student center productively.

Day 3:
I started at 10AM, met with the supervisor and he assigned me the task of the day. My task was first to make a schedule of the graduated students in HCT Abu Dhabi. Different schedules were made, the morning classes students were in a separate schedule from the evening classes’ students. Then these schedules were plugged into Excel were each schedule contains the serial number, name of the student, the ID of each, and the major of each student who were graduated. This task took an average time of 2 hours to accomplish. At 12PM the task of that day was done.

Day 4:
In this day I started doing my task at 10AM. The task assigned by my supervisor was also based on arranging the data of graduated students.  My basic task was looking at old records of graduated students who have a work placement before being officially graduated. I arranged each group of students under a certain company name and then calling the supervisor of the company who was looking after those students asking him if the students are still working or not. Simply each company had about 5 students who were having their work placement in.  Arranging these data and calling the companies supervisors took me a 2 hours of time.

Day 5:
After being done from calling the companies supervisors and asking about the progress of each student, today’s task was to call each student. I called every single student and asked about their work placement.  This task was to give each student the information they need about their working time period and also I gave each student the contact number of the advisor that could help him to solve an issue or anything else.  The task started at 10AM and by 1PM the job was accomplished.

Day 6:
A new task was assigned by my supervisor. The task was to give out Akoun certificates to the students who attend the seminar of Akoun. After giving certificates to each student who attended the Akoun seminar, another task was assigned. This task was to help the new students in HCT to get over some problems they were facing during registration. I was helping them to meet with the registrar’s office employees and also to discuss with them some issues related to the enrollment in HCT.

Day 7:
This was the last day. The final task was to print and compile papers of graduating students. The papers include the names of the graduated students, the work placement information, and every single data related to each student. Each set of papers were for a certain student and those papers were collected by my supervisor to help in arranging graduated students records.

Activity 3

Human Rights Activity 3:

1.     Working in pairs, go to Google Maps (or a similar site) and download an image of the map of the city of Abu Dhabi. It may be a part of Abu Dhabi rather than the whole city. It should include homes, major public buildings (e.g., parks, schools, mosques) and public services (e.g., hospitals, fire department, police station) and any other places that are important to the community (e.g., grocery stores, mall, gas stations). If they are not on the map, you should add them in the correct places.

2.     Analyze your map from a human rights perspective. What human rights do they associate with different places on their maps? For example, a mosque with freedom of thought and religion; the school with the right to education; the post office with the right to information, to privacy, and to self-expression. As they identify these rights, they should look up the relevant article(s) in the UDHR and write the article number(s) next to that place on the map.

3.     Present the map to the whole class.

·         Did any parts of your map have a high concentration of rights? How do you explain this?

·         Yes it have because in the map there is civil defense and hospital and 4 hotels.

·         Did any parts have few or no rights associations? How do you explain this?

No

·         Are there any articles of the UDHR that seem to be especially exercised in this community? How can this be explained?

Yes they are some articles that says everyone has the right to life and to live in freedom and safety especially that there is more than  10 police station.

Are there any articles of the UDHR that no group included on their map? How can this be explained?

 No

How could town/city planners might use information like this when they develop areas for their citizens?
These information have the rights that the citizens need and could help the city planners to develop their cities.
